About him
I'm a quiet but friendly person. At the moment I have a range of friends some younger than myself, who all seem to enjoy my company and can testify I have a young attitude to life. I have one daughter and one granddaughter who, as they live near me, I'm lucky to see most weekends.
I particularly love plants and am quite knowledgeable about them, though I'm not the best of gardeners!
I'm not too keen on animals but I do like cats. Growing up I had a Siamese cat, which was very vocal and sociable. I haven't got a cat at the moment, as I live near a very busy main road, which is therefore too dangerous for pets.
My main hobbies are reading, especially good crime novels or historical fiction, and using my tablet computer for information and online shopping. I'm a regular user of eBay, particularly for books, which are very good value for pre-owned novels
I also enjoy learning languages and have studied French, Spanish and Italian. I wouldn't say I'm fluent in these languages but I can get by!
I like to travel to Mediterranean countries where there is good weather and appetising food. It's unfortunate that travel has become very expensive these days!
About his ideal match
I should like to meet someone with similar hobbies to mine and with an open mind. It would be nice to meet somebody fairly local for mutually interesting outings. A car driver would be ideal but I don't mind using public transport.
I would like to assure anyone going out with me that I will always pay my way. I don't feel that a man should always pay the bills if he takes a lady out!
A good conversationalist would be nice but if I met a shy person, I hope we could still get on. I was very shy as a child but have blossomed in my old age!
I would be willing to meet almost anybody suitable but would prefer to meet in the day, as I'm not very confident
going out at night.
